Oregon 450T Track vs Trip Computer and Waypoint questions

For my last two long hikes, the trip computer has quite a bit LESS distance than the track. I saw the post about trip computer having LONGER distance than Track, but no explanation for my situation, which is the reverse. Both hikes were in pretty heavy woods, where I suspect (but forgot to check) that I lose GPS signal sporadically. Both hikes were between 8.5 and 9.5 miles, and the difference between trip computer and track is about a mile. Any insight?

Another question - For one hike I entered in advance a waypoint for a specific point (The Big Tree) from both a published map and another hiker; the two sources provided the same way point. In reality, when I arrived at the Big Tree, the waypoint was showing it almost 1/2 mile away from where I was standing. I marked my own waypoint for future use, but I was perplexed as to how it could be off that much!

Thanks in advance. I'm a newby and learning!
  • How did you enter the waypoint? It's quite possible your Oregon is set to a different map datum/position format.

As for variance, there could be a number of reasons. Difficult to know what it could be ... are you able to post a gpx file of the route/track?
