After a few years of trouble free use, my Garmin Nuvi 255W all of a sudden started rebooting itself (the screen blacks out and then shows the picture of a computer with an upload progression box below). The unit will reload and work for a short time before it does it again. The unit was not plugged into a power cord when the issue started. Any ideas what the issue could be???
I'm wondering if the battery is the culprit. Can you run the battery down to nothing and then charge it to 100% before using it? After that, start it again and let us know if the unit still reboots spontaneously. You may also want to try performing a hard reset. Did you try the master reset (URL in my earlier reply)? I have also had success snapping a device (different manufacturer) out of a constant reboot cycle by plugging it into a wall charger rather than a USB port on a computer or the 12V outlet in the car.
