Can I edit a recorded run?

Hi,

I use a Garmin Forerunner 305, and have it set to auto lap every mile.

Yesterday, I completed the Great North Run (Half marathon). I stopped my watch at the finish line, but didn't lap it it for the extra 0.1 mile.

At some point later I'd accidentally pressed start on my watch without realising. So I have an extra half an hours worth of activity on my run.

Is there a way to cut off the erroneous time on my watch via Garmin Connect or any other way?
I've seen online you can delete extra laps by editing your upload in a text file, but if I did that I'd have to cut off my race at 13 miles instead of the finish line.

Thanks if you can help.
  • I have that same question for the 910. finished a half forgot to reset at end the bumped the start need to delete that last lap.

Attach a copy of your file to another post here and someone will fix it.

Add some info about where (time or distance) you want the file to start and stop.
  • You should be able to

    • Download the .tcx file for your activity from Garmin Connect.
    • Make a copy of downloaded .tcx file as a backup.
    • Open the .tcx file in a text editor (it is just xml) such as wordpad.
    • Remove the entry for the last lap, adjusting other values if necessary.
    • Delete the bad activity from Garmin Connect.
    • Manually upload the new .fit file here.
    • Repeat steps 3-7 until you get the data right.

There may be tools out there for that can be used to modify .tcx files. I haven't really looked, but given the nature of the data it wouldn't be too difficult to write one. Another way would be to use the Fit File Repair Tool to modify the original .fit file (if you still have it). I believe it will make all of the necessary changes to the file, but it isn't free.
