Hi,
Since a little bit over 2 years I own a Dakota 20.
Until last week, I've never had any trouble.
Last week I took it out on the open sea during a quite rough boat trip.
With speeds over 60 km/h and waves of 1,5m (and maybe higher) my dakota had to withstand many shocks (I attached it to the boat with the wrist cord).
Since that trip, the satellite reception is not good.
It takes a long time before it 'sees' enough satellites (5 to 10 minutes).
If it finally has a signal that is good enough, the accuracy isn't good.
Before the boat trip, it usually is between 5-10m, but now, most of the time it is over 30m.
Besides that, my Dakota also looses signal quite often when I use it in urban environment.
I already contacted Garmin support, but all they could advise me was to try to upgrade my device to the latest firmware and preform a master reset.
Both options I had already tried myself.
The last option is to send my device to Garmin and then it will be replaced.
But, because I own the device for more than 2 years, my warranty is void and it will cost me money to get my dakota replaced.
I think it must be some sort of hardware failure, because the problems occur since the boat trip.
After some searching on the web, I could not find a possible cause of the failure.
Before replacing my device, I want to give it a last try to fix it my self.
I've already opened my dakota, but I couldn't see any loose parts (at least, not at first sight).
Anyone who can tell me what can be the possible cause and how to fix it?
