Useage of Track Points

My understanding of the useage of the GPS60CSx memory is that it begins to wrap tracks after it has used up the number of track points specified on the user setup page (mine is set to the maximum 10,000 points). Does the Garmin GPS60CSx continue to use up track points while the user is at a standstill? For example, if I use the GPS on a long trip in a vehicle so that it remains plugged in and battery life is not an issue, while I am stopped for a meal, overnight, sightseeing, etc., is the unit still laying down track points that will hasten the erasure of the beginning track points when it reaches 10,000? If there are a number of stops, it is not desireable to have to remember to turn the unit off and on again so that it won't "waste" track points.

Thanks for any help.

That depends whether you have the track log set to "wrap" (overwrite old data) or stop.

... after it has used up the number of track points specified on the user setup page (mine is set to the maximum 10,000 points).

That setting only affects the map page display. It does not affect the track log.

Again it depends on your settings. If set to record "by time" then yes. If set to "by distance" or "auto" then no.

Now the 60CSx allows you to log tracks to SD card. If you do that the 10,000 point limit of the ACTIVE LOG becomes irrelevant.

I am set to wrap and I am also set to auto. When I return from a long trip, my early tracks have been erased in order for the unit to wrap. As long as I need not worry about "wasting" track points by leaving the unit on while I am stopped for awhile, I will have to live with the truncating action of not seeing my beginning tracks unless I want to download to my laptop more often. By the way my SD card says that it is 42% full and the unit is set to Log Track to Data Card but it has not sent a day's log there for over a year.

Well tracks logged to card don't show in the unit nor can you transfer them unless you go to mass-storage mode and manually copy any GPX files on the card.
