Data aquisition issues

Hi

My Oregon 450 consistently records less distance/ altitude gain etc than friends devices (even phones!). After uploading to Strava and comparing the recorded track on the Google Earth type images with a friend it is clear that my device is cutting corners/ straight lining sections of the same route ridden at the same time. This implies it is taking data less often than the other device, is there a way to increase the sampling rate & make the recording more accurate? I am using it on my bike if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any pointers you may be able to give to solve this.
  • Setup>Tracks change your record interval to a lower value.

However trying to compare figures on your device to others sometimes is apple to oranges without knowing what their setting are or how their particular device resolves the raw data to come up with a figure. Also, comparing devices and different sites like strava, GC, ridewithgps and others will be annoying to someone that needs column a and b to balance.
  • Thanks very much for your prompt response, I will give that a try. I realise comparing devices is not particularly ideal but when the images from the 2 devices are viewed side by side it makes you question why a phone app appears to be more accurate than a dedicated (& at the time bought, expensive) GPS device? It also makes me wonder how many miles more I've actually ridden than my unit has told me over the 3 years I've had it!
