Garmin Connect Suddenly Won't Change Location or Follow Road When Mapping New Course

Hello All:

All of the sudden Garmin Connect will not allow me to enter a city/state name or zip code when I attempt to create a new course. After entering the information I press ENTER and my town/state name or zip code disappears from the field.

Also, if I attempt to create a new course and have it follow the road, Garmin Connect instead tries to map a straight line, despite the fact that I've clicked the check-box that enables "Stay on Roads".

I have reported both issues to Garmin but so far no reply.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have!

It should disappear from the field but the center point of your map should have changed. Is that not happening?

What web browser are you using?

    Hi

Tried it again today. The center point of my map remains fixed, regardless of what I enter into the Location field. Also, it still doesn't want to follow the road between waypoints. I'm using IE 8. I tried it at home last night on my iPad and it worked normally, so I I'm wondering if this is a compatibility glitch with IE.

I informed Garmin through its Feedback button yesterday. Pretty disappointing that I haven't received ANY reply whatsoever -- not even an auto generated "hey, we're sorry you've got a problem and we'll get back to you ASAP."
  • I'm using IE 10 and it works fine. You might want to change your compatibility view and test it that way. While in Garmin Connect go to tools >> Compatibility View Settings >> "garmin.com" should already be in the "Add this website" text box >> click Add >> Close

If that doesn't work, suggest resetting IE to defaults. Tools >> Advanced tab >> Reset button >> OK. IE will prompt to restart. That will clear out a lot of cruft that piles up over time and causes IE to not respond appropriately.

I've always gotten a reply when I email Garmin Support, most of the time it's helpful. The big pain with trying to email them using their support process is that you have to make sure you're registered to my.garmin and logged on. Also, copy whatever you write before you try to send it as usually your login will timeout and you might loose all you just wrote, but if you sign back in and paste it you are good to go.

I use the feedback buttons on GC too, but only for suggestions. I'm not sure they are really geared to work on individual user issues through the website problems you report via that. I think it's just a collection bucket to tally how many of what issues they have.

As for your problem, if clearing your browser cache or trying different compatibility modes don't do it, then I don't know. It works for me on the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

Thanks for the input. I needed to reset IE and reboot. Seems to be working normally now. Thanks again!
  • Good to hear. Thanks for letting us know. ;)
