Not Enough Storage to Update Maps

I am pretty upset right now. I bought a Garmin 3490LMT and wanted to update the maps to 2014.10. However, Garmin Express tells me that there is not enough storage on my device and I need to purchase an SD card or only install parts of the maps. I did some research and found that others had the same issue and they recommended using the Garmin Map Updater. I could not find it on Garmin's website but found a link. I downloaded it (v3.2.2) and tried to do the update but get the same error as with Garmin Express.

It is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS to sell a device with lifetime map updates but then you can't update it unless you buy more memory. If it's a bug then its RIDICULOUS that Garmin has not solved this issue yet since that problem seems to exist for several months.
  • If you'd done your research before buying rather than after you'll have discovered that Garmins information on lifetime map updates makes it quite clear that a card may be required. It can hardly therefore be described as ridiculous.

It's no different to buying a digital camera these days most of which need you to buy a card if you want to take anything more than a couple of photos.
