Can anyone help me? My waypoints are out by whopping 500m when I down load the co-ordinates from google earth. I make a pinpoint on a google earth map, enter the co-ordinates into my garmin etrek20, then when I follow the map to the waypoint it is 500m out????? I have downloaded the Australia and New Zealand Tropo map

Sounds like you are using the wrong coordinate format, or the wrong datum.
I think by default Google Earth uses degrees, decimal minutes format , eg DD MM.MMM. So you have to set the Etrex to use the same.
On the Etrex, go to Setup menu -> Position Format, then check what it is set to. Also Google Earth uses the WGS84 datum, so make sure the Etrex is set to that.

    map datum

i am in thailand and the maps i use are old and use india- thailand map datum for utm. so, when in the field, i use the thai map datum and everything matches up nicely with my maps. but, when i go to base camp or google earth, do i have to switch over to wgs84??
if i still use india-thai datum, will it be off on google earth and base camp?

thanks to anybody that can answer
