Hi!
I thought that there are no differences between moduls (GPS receivers, altimeters, compasses, etc.), only by software, but this topic makes me curious.
Using Montana in my bike I measure really wierd elevation gain/loss values. Yesterday for example on a 30km tour I measured 416m gain and more than 600m loss - naturally I arrived to where I started. On Connect page I turned on elevation optimalization and it showed me more than 900m gain and almost the same loss.
It was a nice hill road, with some up-downs but I "feel" 900m is a bit more and 400m is for sure much less then real datas.
It was said to me that on Edge series' altimeters users can rely on - if they are the same I use in Montana I cannot belive it. Unfortunately I've no Edge with me to compare them.
I experienced that on smaller hills with no narrow valleys elevation measurements are usually more accurate - why can these circumstances modify elevation measurements?
Is it true, that the measuring moduls of these devices are the same - and only SW does difference?
What are the experiences with Montana elevation accuracy and with Connect elevation optimalization?
Thanks,
Peter
