Please help - Map issue

Hi All

I have just bought an Oregon 600 for a holiday to the Alps on Monday (12th August) - I need to buy an appropriate map but am having trouble finding one (couldn't get through to Garmin on the phone this week). We are staying in a small village called Prazzo which is a comune of the province of Cuneo, in Piemonte, northern Italy. The alps are at the back door and very close to the French border (we will probably cross it here and there).
My query is can I buy part of a map for that area or do I need to purchase a complete map of France & a complete map of Italy (seems a massive expense when I only want to navigate a small part of both countries!)

I really hope someone out there can help me / offer some much needed advise

You could just download a free OSM map from here http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ or here http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/en/index.html (Region D looks ideal for you)

Thanks you so much Sussamb that is brilliant!! As I'm so new to this, could I ask a last (newbie) question please? Why do Garmin sell maps for £160+ if you can get them from these sources for free? Is there something you get in addition to purchasing the maps from Garmin i.e. better quality, more accurate, higher level of detail??

For the nuvi range Garmin City Navigator maps are better in many respects, as they allow full address search etc, but for other uses OSM maps often prove extremely useful ... and of course are free.
