Upgrade Garmin Maps

I have a garmin nuvi 255w and right now it is working beautifully. However, when I upgraded the maps yesterday I was able to upload the USA Maps, but not the Canadian maps. Now I do plan a trip to Canada next year and am hoping that someone could tell me how I could upgrade both the US and Canadian maps. Are there files that I can delete on the nuvi 255w that will give me the space that I need to update both the US and Canadian maps. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Are if this cannot be done could you recommend a new garmin gps unit with a 5" or 7" screen that will give me space to upgrade the maps. Thanks.
  • You should be able to use MapUpdater to download the complete mapset to your PC then use MapInstall to load the Canadian files onto a sd card.

That's what I do. The "Lower 49" go to my 1490T's internal memory while Alaska, Canada and Mexico go the the SD card.

I use GarminMapUpdater to load the "Lower 49" and install the maps to my PC. I then use MapSource (or MapInstall/Basecamp if you prefer) to load the rest to a card.
