Etrex 20 won't update

I have other issues with this unit https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?48686-Etrex-20-won-t-save-tracks

I thought if I could get help solving this one it might resolve the others.
It is running version 2.8 and despite all my attempts the 3.1 update refuses to take.

How are you trying to update it? I note that the Update site now says Use Garmin Express, are you using that?

If so try WebUpdater instead http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

I've tried updating through base camp, Garmin connect and the web updater. All with no luck. Every time I restart the unit and check the info button in the setup menu it says it's running version 2.8.

Does your PC see your Etrex? Just wonder if you have a faulty cable. I've had no problem updating my Etrex 20.

If it does see the Etrex look in the Garmin folder, do you see a file called gupdate.gcd, if so what date is showing?

Yep my pc can see it. Web updater finds it no problems . Windows explorer can see all the files and folders on the unit and I can save and delete tracks that way but the unit itself seems incapable of reading or writing to and from it's own memory.

It has todays date and the time I last tried to update it. So maybe it has updated but for some reason the unit isn't reading it like it can't read any track files?

AFAIK the gupdate.gcd has the date you downloaded it to the unit, did you do that today? If so have you rebooted your Etrex as gupdate.gcd runs when you boot. Yeah I tried again today. I did reboot it and no it's still saying it's running 2.8. I tried a master reset previously and just did it again then. Still says 2.8

Then I think only Garmin can help you.
