WebUpdater issues....

Former Member

I can not update, uninstall, or re-install, WebUpdater.

Here is the message I receive:

The file ‘C:Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\WUMAIN.msi’ is not a valid installation package for the product Garmin WebUpdater. Try to find the installation package ‘WUMAIN.msi’ in a folder from which you can install Garmin WebUpdater.

The Garmin tech support guy told me this is a Microsoft issue that involves installing and removing software programs. Well, I did not find this to be the case, as I was able to install my Garmin MapSource Topo Version 3.02.
Perhaps this is an issue with WebUpdater?

I have a GPSMap 76CS.

Any help with the WebUpdater issues is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Actually IMO the Garmin tech is correct. I've had this kind of thing happen before but I've never figured out (or bothered to) whether it is a vendor or Windows issue.

Now my solution, that I've used before, is to manually remove all traces of the offending program and then re-install it.

Unfortunately you don't say what O/S you're using but I'm guessing XP. In any case you need to remove the WebUpdater Add/Remove Programs entry. Here's how to do that on XP.

Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool

If you're using another version of Windows use Google to find the procedure for your version.

After doing that locate (via the WebUpdater start menu properties) the folder containing the program and delete that.

Then download and install the latest version (2.5.6) of WebUpdater.

    Thanks for the help!

I am using Windows XP Home edition.

I will go to the link you provided, and try the "Removing Invalid Entries in Add/Remove Programs Tool"

Can you tell me where/how to find the WebUpdater Start Menu properties and the folder containing the program, so I can delete the program?

    TIA.

Click on "Start", go to "Programs", "Garmin", and highlight "WebUpdater" then right-click and select Properties (bottom of the context menu). The "Target" entry show where WebUpdater.exe is located. Just delete the entire folder it is in.
