Oregon 450t was showing me somewhere else

I haven’t used my Oregon 450t in some time. I updated the software, from v4.30 to v6.30. Then I took the unit outside and fired it up. Strong signal, new batteries, all seemed fine. But where I was physically standing and where it showed me standing on the GPS map was completely wrong. It was off by 0.1 miles (see attachment).

Any ideas/suggestions? I tried searching and found some saying that the Garmin roads have a tendency to be off. One person mention something like 100ft, but a tenth of a mile? Odd, although it was tracking me just fine and the accuracy was tight.

One more, not nearly as big of a deal, but why does BaseCamp show creeks when I plug in my GPS, but they don't show up on my GPS map? Topo info is there, just not some of the detail I'm seeing in BC.

Thanks for any help provided.
  • If all you have is the basemap then that sort of error isn't unusual.

As for detail, ensure your Oregon is set to 'most' in Advanced Map Setup, Detail.

The 450T has a special version (same maps but size reduced) of Topo US 100K. They're topo (vs road) maps so any roads may be slightly off as SUSSAMB says.

    My situation is the same.
When I moving with Oregon in my hand, the map dissapear and jump elsewhere (5000 miles or more). When I stop from moving the GPS back to my location. The tracking log seen like a line from nowhere to my place.
What is wrong? The gps or my setting?

    Thanks.
