Hello Peoples,I can't get my nuvi 3790T to finish installing maps, its gets to 96% and will not download anymore. I have uninstalled and re-installed the express installer all to no avail, still gets to 96% and won't go any further. I didn't have a problem down loading the software/firmware updates nor have I had problems down loading before. Please help.
  • Well many here would advise ditching Express and using GarminMapUpdater but if you want to persevere with Express ensure you have the latest version http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe

You may also need to clear out the temp directory as explained in this thread https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?42340-Neither-Garmin-Express-Nor-Map-Updater-Working-for-Me&p=192112#post15 by KGANSHIRT

Thanks for the help there SUSSAMB, nailed on the head with, 'ditch the Express. I cleared out Temp folder and tried again on Express, and had it stop on 96% with no down loads. Uninstalled it, did a search flies and folder named Garmin and found a heap of them also with maps as well, probably where the reference was coming 96%. Anyway deleted all those folders, run with the GMU and had a small glitch as is was winding up the install 'like had to close unexpectedly". So run it again and came back with all maps up to date, that will do me....... once again many thanks.

+1 on this ExpressInstaller being a POS.
I have waisted 2 days, 2 different laptops and countless re-installs on this ExpressInstaller, just to see the recommendation by you to use the MapUpdater instead (including a link).
    Thank you very much :)
    Fixed the problem 1st go.
Now I am on limited download due to having to use 3G access (no DSL here).
I think Garmin need to pull their socks up and avoid these kind of issues. With lots of iphones and other smart phones having the ability to use GPS routing, they really have to present some decent (working products) for us to stick with them.

At the moment I have 3 Garmin devices, not counting the previous 3 I had.
So I am not a newbie to this.
Thanks for your help in solving a pain in the rear problem.

Smee again, just when I thought it was going well again, went to use gps in car today and it told me my maps where older than a year. Plug the nuvi back to the computer and with GMU it tells me my maps are up to date.
So I went and tried to reload the maps and twice it gets to the 3rd stage 'installing maps' and comes up with 'An unexpected error has occurred and the program must shut down', err ok. Who has some solutions please.
  • Can you go to Tools>Settings>myMaps and say what is shown there?

Also how much space is showing as used and spare when you check your nuvi's properties on your PC?

Check too the garmindevice.xml file in the Garmin folder, what size is it?

  • Afraid I can't see why you might be getting that error. Your best bet at this stage might be to try the 'clone' method, and then manually copy the map files across. See here for an explanation http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231

Thanks SUSSAMB for your time and input, do you mean my maps are over a year old error?
I started on that cloning and it come up with my maps are up to date.
I'll live with the maps are over a year old error and wait till the next updates come around and work it out from there.
  • No, the 'unexpected error has occurred' error :)

Did you use MapUpdater to load the maps to your clone? If so when MapUpdater says your maps are up to date look underneath for the 'Enter a product code' link. You can find the product code in myMaps when you log into your myGarmin.

But as you say, you could just wait ... the 2014.20 maps should be released later this month :)

Hi SUSSAMB, I used the Map Updater but didn't even download as after the the second step 'communicating with server' then it says the same as it did with my nuvi plugged in, 'Your maps are up to date, would you like to reinstall etc etc'
