Power Problem with Nuvi 2370

I have a weird problem with a Nuvi 2370. It started when I connected it in my car to a USB cable connected to an adapter in the 12 V plug, not the regular garmin cable and cradle set up. I had been doing this without a problem up until then. The unit was on at the time and I plugged in the USB cable and started the car. The unit immediately shut down, and would not restart. Thereafter, the pattern has been that it will only restart when a USB cable is connected to a power source (either the car outlet, a computer or a transformer plugged into a wall outlet). when it does, the unit first shows the computer connection logo and after a minute or so goes into navigation mode. If i shut the gps off, it won't restart until it has been sitting for about 8 hours or so, but only when it's again connected to an external power source. Any thoughts? Do I need a new battery?
  • If u unplug the 12v power, and the nuvi does not countdown before it shuts down, but shuts down immediately u have a battery problem.
  • The unit does countdown when it is disconnected from a power source, but then it won't restart - not from the internal battery or when plugged into an external power source - for about 12 hours or so. And, as I mentioned, it won't accept a charge from the Garmin cradle that attaches to the cable that plugs into the car power outlet. It will only accept a charge through the USB port connected either to a computer, an AC charger with 5 V output, or a car charger that converts 12 V to 5 V DC.

Sounds like you should call or email Garmin Support. They'll have you do a multitude of things that likely won't help, but if you jump through all their hoops, you'll likely get another unit sent to you or they'll offer to repair that one.

The key thing is that you keep letting them know it still doesn't work after each thing they have you do. Unless of course something they tell you actually fixes your issue.
