Privacy setting "Everyone" doesn't expose activities on profile

Hi at Connect.

The privacy setting in my profile (http://connect.garmin.com/settings/privacy) dubbed "Who can see your new activities?" is set to "Everyone" and thus all my individual activities have the "Everyone" setting.

Accessing an individual activity with a direct link (ex. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/327381410) will show the activity to everyone, even without being logged in to Connect. Still when viewing my profile (http://connect.garmin.com/profile/mikini77) without being logged in, the only information visible is my profile picture, and a message saying "mikini77 only shares some information publicly.".

I don't think that behaviour respects my privacy setting of "Everyone". In my opinion the "Everyone" (or maybe more correct "Public" as is used in the profile text) setting, should literally mean everyone, and the behaviour I experience might be available through a "Connect users" setting or similar.

Is that an error, or are there any setting I can adjust to expose my list of activities to everyone ie. the general public?

What have you set for "Who can see your profile?" on the privacy page. I think you need to set that to "Everyone".

    Hi Craig.

You are right, thanks. That setting needs to be set to "Everyone" before anything more than profile picture (including activities) are shown on the profile page, regardless of the activity privacy setting.
I agree that it makes somewhat sense, but isn't that obvious when looking to achieve that effect. It is not very clear what is covered and what is not for the "Who can see your profile?" setting.

  • Why wouldn't you set all your activities as public? It makes you potentially vulnerable to people who know find out where you live and your times routines. It would be advisable not to do it, especially if you have some enemies....
