Two Maps At Once?

Is there a way to load 2 maps at once onto a Garmin eTrex Venture so that you can toggle back and forth between them. I'm getting into hiking and I'd love to have both a Topo map and My Trails on the GPS. If there is a way to do it, could someone explain to me how to do it, slowly and simply, please.

Thanks
  • You can toggle between loaded map sets in Setup, Map Setup, Information :)
  • BaseCamp doesn't send maps to device, it uses external program for this purpose, it is MapInstall. In MapInstall you can select multiple maps and send them all as single file to your eTrex.
  • Basecamp can only display one map at a time. So yes, put them on one at a time or combine them. Note that Basecamp will save them as gmapsupp.img so you will need to rename the first one or the second one will overwrite it. Then select them on your GPS under Map Setup.

The only slight niggle is that there are AFAIK only certain names that the earlier Garmin models will accept for maps. You can't have more than 8 characters and only certain names. gmapsupp.img works, as does gmapsup2.img or gmapprom.img.

Edit: popej's post is correct, connect your GPS then right click it in Basecamp, and select Install maps ... this launches MapInstall
