Need help understanding laps...

Hi guys,

I just started using GC and it's great!
I don't own a sport gps device (yet) so I'm using my Garmin 60CSx and upload tracks manually, which still works OK for my needs.

One thing I can't seem to make work is laps though. I'm wondering if this feature requires one of the edge/forerunner device or if it should work with any device?

If it should work with any device, how are laps determined? Say I upload my GPX track, which consists of 4 laps of a 9km course. Am I supposed to be able to split this track using GC? I tried many things and couldn't make it work.

Just wndering if GC takes care of splitting the track data into laps by itself.

Cheers!

Fred
  • Laps are done on the device and they will be transferred to display on GC. Not sure about the 60csx though, but most of the fitness devices do.....I think.

It would be nice if GC allowed you to mark lines on the map across your track and let them be calculated as laps or splits, but GC doesn't do that to my knowledge.

    Thanks for your response..
Looked a bit further in options and the only "lap" feature I have on the 60CSx is on the Stopwatch page. There I can set it to count lap by distance, but I don't think it would be included in the GPX exported file anyways.

I totally agree with you that an option would be nice in GC. On many devie, laps work by distance, so it could be as easy as specifying a lap distance and GC could split the track by this distance.

    Cheers
