Software to Program GPS via computer?

We've got BaseCamp to manage waypoints, routes, etc. I'd enjoy having the capability to set-up/program a device (such as my 62s) via a computer and keyboard instead of a bunch of button pushing on the device itself. Much of this would be setting up preferences, etc. I currently do that with my scanner.

Garmin units have never had such remote control capabilities to my knowledge. For example I've long since wanted the ability to back/restore up all my user preferences but that is not possible. Instead I've documented them manually so I can restore them when required.
  • Even saving the various "Profiles" doesn't retain everything...especially menu items, order, etc. I currently use a combination of screen shots and written information. I'm on my third 62s in as many years and with each exchange (not to mention all the resets), it would really be nice to have an easy way to set it back up.
