Import tcx/gpx courses into Garmin Connect

A local cycling club posts their courses/routes on ridewithgps.com. I saved their tcx and gpx files to my computer and then tried to import them into Garmin Connect but it failed every time. Finally I had to re-create their course manually in Garmin Connect's create-a-course feature (very time consuming and annoying) to send to my Garmin device (Forerunner 910xp), which worked. I'd like to be able to import the tcx or gpx directly from the Ride With GPS files though.

Yes. An Import-Feature would be very helpful.

I was just looking for a way to do this...but I'm guessing from this thread that its not possible?

I found a way to upload a track:
    # download a track from gpsies.com (you can upload your tracks in several formats there)
    # download this track as gpx
    # in Gamin Connect you can go to Upload-Panel - choose manual upload (I don't know the correct english spelling because I am using the germin UI)
    # choose the previously downloaded gpx-file
    # now you have a new activity - from here you can save the associated track in your track-list

I have recently worked on a corporate bike ride, the organiser sent us the course with a link to www.gpsies.com, now I did a manual upload to GC, as described in this thread to get the upload to work I did one pass through of the file in their 'Convert' page, converting to a 'GPX Track', after uploading to GC I saved as a course and sent to device. My colleague who also rode the event uploaded the course to the 810 differently, he plugged his 810 into his computer then selected the 'Export to Garmin GPS' button on the www.gpsies.com site.

The result differed, he got TBT arrows, peeps and text, I got the course overlaid on the map with off course warnings, but no TBT arrows, peeps or text. Neither unit crashed or froze, which was the first time both of us have actually finished a ride when we needed it to work where it hasn't gone wrong!

Both units had the following settings:

    Turn off "off route recalculation":
Activity Profiles > Race or Train as appropriate > Navigation > Routing > Recalculation 'off',

Turn by turn navigation: Activity Profiles > Race or Train as appropriate > Navigation > Map > Guide Text 'Always Display'.

    Off course warnings:
Courses> Then select the Course> Settings> Off Course warnings 'on

    Bravo!!!!!!!!
  • The NewFiles folder never worked for me with my Garmin Edge 500.. I followed the instructions, even unplugged it safely (which I never do) and when I turn it on, no new courses are available on my Garmin.. don't know why!
p.s. tried with GPX files, including a track that I personally recorded with my Garmin!

GPX file loading into Garmin Quatix

This simple procedure worked like a charm - simply treat the watch/device like a drive; click on the Garmin Folder; click on the GPX folder; and simply drag your converted GPX file into this and close the window. Safely remove the device, let it reboot and turn GPS feature on, go to waypoints and they should all be there.

Try the following link to load courses. Worked nicely for me:

    http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?supportPage=Edge%20810&caseId=%7B89b599d0-6189-11e2-f3fb-000000000000%7D&locale=en_US
