How can I increase the search limit on Garmin Nuvi?

On almost anything that I search for, may it be POI or cities or street address, there seems to be a 30 mile limit. It will show me the results within 30 miles only. In tomtom there is an option of increasing the search range but in garmin there doesn't seem to be an option.

Is there anyway this can be changed?

This is for the nuvi3790 BTW.

On my 1490T under Find there's a "Spell Name" option which will (just tried it) find POI's more than 30 miles away (187+ miles in my test). That said it can take a long time.

    I don't know if that's available on the 3790.

You mean if you enter a name?

In my case I entered the name of something I knew to be a state or more away.

I don't know. I do know that POI's are sometimes misspelled. On my 1490T you can enter partial names.

Frankly for further away stuff I search in a PC program (MapSource in my case) rather than in a device.

That could very well be. It would take forever for a unit to show every McDonalds in the US so I bet it stops after finding the closet 10 or so.

The search I tried was for something not anywhere close.
  • There is no distance limit, but the number of results is limited to 50 I believe. There is however an option to search nearby another location.
