Base Camp

I'm pretty new to this as I just 2 months ago got my 665 for my motorcycle. Pretty cool machine does a lot of stuff, some of which I've not discovered.

Have watched the videos on base camp and they make it look so easy, but at least wise on my part, it's not.

When i try to put a route via the map(on my computer) my lines don't follow the roads, they are just straight lines. Is this right?

Also quite by accident I discovered that the stuff transferred to the GPS is stored in "my Data" , then you have to import it, didn't see that in the videos.

Looks like it will be a nice tool for setting up rides once I figure how to use it properly.

Thanks for any help
  • Hi,

After u selected the points on the map, u need to create a route between them. If u have the routeble map
And u select the route tool (three green connected squares) it draws a route each time u make a point on the map.

    Regards,
    Mario
  • If you're getting straight lines then either you've selected a non routeable map or you've selected the 'direct' activity profile. You can change the activity profile of any route by double clicking it which opens up the properties box. There are 2 drop down boxes top right, ensure Direct isn't selected.
  • As I said I'm new to this.....both of you referenced routeable map, is that the map that comes with Base Camp?

When I try to plan a route I click on the new route symbol in the tool bar and it gives a symbol that looks like a pencil. I go between 2 intersection on the map, it's a straight line.

sounds like I'm not on the roiuteable map.
  • The 'global map' if that's what you're referring to isn't routeable, but there are as I said two possibilities. Did you look at the route properties to see if Direct routing was set? If so then regardless of the map you'll get a straight line.

Other maps that you may have installed for BC to use may or may not be routeable. However if you connect your GPS to your PC you can select the map on your GPS, that will be routeable.
  • Thanks...got it where I can plan a route....now just need to figure all the other stuff I can do with this...

    Thanks again.
