Really Unhappy with New Calendar - sort it out Garmin!!

Im that annoyed that Im taking the time to post in this forum!

I have been using the old style calendar every day and although it wasnt perfect it did the job - I could keep track of all the exercise Id done and see at a glance what ive been up to over the last month.

But the new format... what a load of rubbish! Where do I start...

Firstly why is everything in the past in some faded washed out blue colour? I have great eyesight but this is difficult to read and generally uncomfortable to look at.

Next, I use 'Notes' to enter when I have a Rest Day as there was no other way to do this. Now what do I get?! A crummy speach bubble in the top right corner of a day! I have to hover over it to see whats written there!! Whos idea was that?! I dont want to have to hover over every speech bubble to see its contents, what a waste of my time!

Worst of all are the format of the manual activities I enter. I use these a lot to show when I have done sports classes. Previously I would see eg 'TRX 1 hour' 'Body Pump 1 hour' Now what do i get?! .00 mi 1:00:00 !!!! Well thats useful **NOT** it doesnt even tell me what exercise Ive done! I have to either hover over it or click on it an open another window before I can see Ive done!

Also the load times for the calendar are slower than they were and they were bad enough previously.

I work in IT and this 'upgrade' is rubbish. I dont know who Garmin pay to 'update' their Connect software but you need to check and test that what you are creating is *actually* better and more useful than the previous version. How could you let this version be released Garmin?

I reluctantly moved over to Garmin from SportTracks software which i was very happy with but I preferred the Garmin calendar (even tho it wasnt great for putting future events in) but unless this calendar is changed, and pretty pronto, I am going to have to go back to SportTracks and let me tell you I will not be making the switch again!

    New Calendar Sucks

I agree with other posts. The calendar is pretty much useless as a tool to asses monthly progress, activity types, weight etc. I use the activity title to briefly describe the workout (ie, "10 mile long run", "5 mile speed workout", "3 mile easy run". etc...). Then I would use the calendar to see how many and when I did those workouts. I also liked the fact that the activities were different colors for biking, walking, running, etc... and were a lot easier to distinguish. I liked seeing my weights on each day rather then hovering to see it now. It was easier to track weight changes and compare throughout a whole month. The calendar was an integral part my planning and training and a very easy to use as a summary previously. Now I have to hover and count... hover and count... and write down numbers and workouts on paper to get a monthly overview.

The tool has been ruined. If it's not fixed, I'll be looking for something else too.

Does Garmin read these posts? I would love to hear from somebody in development to either know when they'll be fixing these issues, or why they think the new calendar is better.

    Change the calendar back!!!!!

To TAN8856: YES, YES, YES - I completely, totally, 100% agree!!! I used to be able to look at the calendar and see EXACTLY what I did on a given day; "Karate," "Elliptical (easy) / stretch"; "Stair Climber (hard)", and so on. Now, I have to drill down with mouse clicks into each day to see what I have done. This falls into the, someone at Garmin needs to be fired, department. The only thing I can think of is that someone (or a team of people) who do not use the calendar and do not work out, made these changes. I sent a long email to Garmin customer service - they wrote back to me with a, "sorry - why don't you send your complaint to the tech department." I sent the complaint to tech and have yet to hear back. They could easily have designed the "new" site so people could use the "old system" or "new system." I am going to continue to use the site with the hope that they change it back. My wife and I have been buying Garmin GPS watches for YEARS, and have been using the calendar for YEARS. This is such a disappointment. If they don't change it back in 4 months or so, I will find a new system. I am so incredibly disappointed :mad::mad:

Ruined my day as well. If they don't change it back, I may be looking at Polar, Timex or Nike GPS watches to see what they have to offer.

    The new "improved" calendar

Ruined my day as well. If they don't change it back, I may be looking at Polar, Timex or Nike GPS watches to see what they have to offer.

I am so glad to see that I am not alone in my utter disgust for the new calendar format. I have already spoken with Garmin Support 3 times and, of course, they can't do anything...but are aware of the issues. I wrote Garmin a rant, starting with "Sometimes better is the enemy of good'! Like all of you, I engage in multiple activities (running, swimming, walking) and like to get a gestalt of my activities for the past week, month or several months. It was much easier with the color coded boxes. In addition, at times I wish to revisit a prior run, and having the activity NAME was useful in distinguishing "10 mile" runs at different venues. Now you need to hover the cursor over each activity separately. Like many of you, I have very good near vision and have difficulty reading the pastel colors. What happened to black?
In addition, I am a Sports Cardiologist and would demonstrate to patients the utility of the Garmin Connect Calendar. They could easily see the color coded boxes from several feet away (sitting across a desk). Now, that is impossible! I can hardly read it up close! I, too, have toyed with the idea of going back to my Polar Monitor.
I would love to see an email campaign to help the IT people see the folly of this "upgrade". If there are new elements, great but BRING BACK THE OLD CALENDAR FORMAT!

New calendar is not an improvement

:mad:This new calendar is really a step backwards. I would really like to see Garmin listen to their customers here and take action to go back to the old calendar. This new one sucks.

Very glad to see that Garmin follows the posts and responds to the needs and desires of its clients :-) Not crazy about the new colors....but maybe we can customize that. Thanks, Garmin.

Now if only they hadn't broken the code base and we could actually log in to see the changes...

I actually like some of the features of the new calendar - being able to drag and drop, and it used to frustrate me when I'd make a change and then be taken back to the current month, so some things that annoyed me have been fixed by the new calendar. Although I do agree the design with the new calendar isn't as great as it could be. of course, not being able to access the site at all right now kind of kills the point.
