Is there any way to use different color for different activities in the new calendar view. Everything went blue with the new redesign and it's a pain in the a.. to differentiate and find particular activities in the current calendar state. Any way to bring back the old colored activities calendar?
I agree, the new calendar is a step back. Further more, I can't add weight -- if I use comma as decimal (83,3) it says "We couldn't complete your request. Please try again.". If I use full stop (83.3) it says "Maximum weight is 453 kg. Please try again." Only if I enter without decimal it accepts ...
In the old calendar was also easier to switch among different months and years, for a quick comparison please consider to restore it , at least as a selectable option
Thank you all for your great feedback, and we're sorry that some of the updates weren't received as well as we'd hoped. We're gathering all of your comments and working on improvements that best address your input. Stay tuned!
Hi fellow misfortunate athletes, while Garmin is working on fixing this mess permanently, I worked out a little plug-in for Google Chrome that brings back color highlights and activity names back to calendar. I am not affiliated with Garmin in any way, just a software developer who know a little bit of javascript woodoo :-) You can get plugin from Chrome Web Store if you search for "Garmin Connect Calendar". Here's my post on Google+ with the link to plugin and it's source code on GitHub:
I am not one to complain and I have even been using and trying to give the new calendar view a chance. I just can not for the life of me figure out how this is an improvement. All my workouts are 3 times as hard to recognize at a glance and my $250 ant+ scale is now paperweight because the Calendar does not show health entries any more. Who could of thought this change was a good idea?
It's good to see above that folks at Garmin have seen the complaints. I surely hope that they will restore the functionality and features of the Calendar. It's hard for me to imagine how anyone could think the new version is an improvement.
I agree with the complaints above, but just to set out my concerns, since Garmin seems to be paying attention:
1. Bring back the different colors for different kinds of activities. Easy to see what you've done at a glance.
2. Add back the names of the activities. Much easier to find a particular activity that way.
3. Put the weight back on the calendar. Don't make us link to see it.
4. The font size is now way too small. Restore the old, larger size.
5. That may be related to the large panel on the left. That just wastes space.
6. Make the ability to add activities through the Calendar more robust again. There are now fields that doesn't recognize, so you now need to re-open somewhere else and edit.
7. Make the panel on the right with weekly totals optional. I'm not sure why Garmin has been bragging about adding that; it was there all along as an option.
8. Speaking of what Garmin was touting, so what with the dragging function? Just replicates another way of doing it.
Garmin, sorry but you've taken a perfectly good function in Calendar and moved it three steps backwards. Please fix it.
It might also result in a better running result if you were to plan your workouts (just saying).
I could not disagree more. Training by feel is much more productive and far less injury risk for me. I do have a simple plan in my head for speedwork days- such as 6x800 or whatever. I will change that to a jog if I am not up for it, or switch to 10x800 if feeling great. Having that info in my watch does nothing for me. I am a mountain runner who mostly wanders the hills for 3-5 hours at a time. You can't plan a course/workout in your device for that type of activity.
I'm just glad that I use several other options (both online and offline) to record and track my training as at least I have some alternatives. I always used to use the Garmin Connect primarily for the Calendar view as it was the best of the bunch in this respect but these 'downdates' have ruined that.
Here's a blog post I wrote a while back reviewing some of the alternatives. http://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2012/online-training-fitness-diary-reviews/ TriBlogs is a very good option out of these and has most (if not all) of the calendar functionality that Garmin Connect has. There were a few things missing but I emailed the developers and they had them aded within a couple of weeks for me.
As far as offline options go then my application of choice at the moment (on a Mac) is Rubitrack. You can see a (now quite old) review I wrote on various Mac apps for recording your training diaries here: http://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2008/mac-training-software-review/
Hopefully Garmin will sort out the new calendar by restoring the old one and adding a few new features to it such as the monthly totals, but until they do it is useless to me so I will be using the other options available to me. Such a shame as it was so good before and the best part of the whole Garmin Connect offering.
