What's with the new calendar format?

I uploaded my data today to see a totally different calendar format. It sucks.

Why?

The font is a tiny, washed out looking pastel. Your only alternatives are other washed out pastel colors in a tiny font.

Name of activity: no longer displayed.

Color coding by activity: no longer an option. Surprisingly perhaps, multisport athletes might actually want to look at the calendar and quickly identify which are his/her swims, runs, and bikes. The teeny little sports icons are NOT HELPFUL.

I don't understand the point. Maybe it's just a bad dream and when I wake up it will be back to normal.

I second SJWILLING - this format is terrible. This is not simply 'change bias' - this is not functional.

    1) notes are hidden, you only see the icon that a note exists (thus necessitating more clicks to review training)
    2) all activities are the same color - unacceptable - does not help visually denote the type of training completed that week

It is nice to have a whole bunch of extraneous info (goals, etc..), but there was already a tab for that.

    :pI have mixed feelings.
I would appréciate slightly bigger and bolder typestyle.
I would like to see in the calendar the pictograme and color used in the activity panel.
I would love to have more pictogrames to distinguish road cycling and mountain biking for exemple...
But I like the "year" tab to get a global view of my activities.
I am happy to found previously "lost" data from early 2012.
  • I really hope that's not the final version of the new calendar - it would finally make me search for an alternative.

Garmin should really think about hiring a Usability Expert for their stuff. When it comes to UX mistakes the new calendar is just the tip of the iceberg.

    my personal highlights:
    1) my forerunner 910xt annoys my every single time I'm using it, because it keeps telling me that it has lost GPS connection when I'm back at home. So I immediately have to turn it off before it starts to beep. And it doesn't just beep once. It keeps telling me that it has no connection. And I mean seriously think about it - what am I supposed to do with that information, even if I'm still out there. Stop training because of no GPS?
    2) the amount of different data you can show is just ridiculous. I'm betting that 99% of all users are using the same maybe ten different data types. Who really wants to know when the sun goes down? So now if you want to change something, you have to scroll through 30 useless data types to find the ones you are looking for.

When sunset time was omitted from one of the devices (the 310xt, I think), a lot of people complained.

I used to use the notes to plan my long runs on the weekends. This quickly and easily gave me a view of the upcoming weeks activities - defined in the notes. The new calendar format takes all that away.

All Garmin has to do is add a Notes checkbox to the left-hand side panel to allow the user to display notes or not. If checked, display the notes in detail, if not checked, just show the icon as they are doing now.

I like most of the other changes, especially the fact they now remember what month/year you were looking at when the page is refreshed.

I don't like the new calendar either. In fact I hate it! Having my notes in the Activity Name show on calendar was very important to me as well as having different color code for swim, bike, and run. Both these are now gone! If they want to really improve calender then allow us to scroll through months like the outlook calendar does and bring back those features I miss. Hopefully Garmin is listening.
  • Roll back the update please - another dislike here for the new Calendar!

Wow, the new calendar is so poor it's hard to believe this is considered an upgrade. Colour coding for different activity types and notes missed. Also used to be able to see the description of the activity. Seriously contemplating a move to another platform if this isn't sorted

Agreed! What a disaster! I can no longer see color coded and icon-ified entries that easily let me see my logged activities at a glance! This new calendar is junk. I might just have to throw in the towel and go to Polar. I mean, Garmin won't commit any resources to integrating with other apps, devices, and services but it will throw programmer time and money into ruining an actual working feature? Grrrrr.....

Yes, agree here as well, dreadful, cannot see colour coded activity type, nor activity title at a glance, much worse. What were the developers thinking?
