City Navigator Europe NTU - Operating Problems In Greek Language & Routing Problems

I would like to inform you about some problems that me and other members of a small Greek forum facing with the operation of our nuvis when we use City Navigator Europe NTU, this behavior have been encountered to 2012 series nuvis (25x5, 24x5, 34xx, 35xx). With older releases of NTU map until now with version 2013.40 nuvis have trouble to complete a route when languange has been set to Greek. Just when Parking symbol appears device freezes, user has to close it by holding On/Off button for a few seconds. Older nuvi devices that use City Navigator Europe NT don't have the same behavior even after thousands of km traveling in Europe.

A second issue has to do with strange routing that nuvis using the NTU version seems to give sometimes. For example:

Black color is the right route to give but for some reason device suggests the red one.

Another example:

Instead of keeping the route on the main road (yellow color) device suggests the red colored one.

If we use the same NTU map in MapSource or BaseCamp routing is very good with no problems. The problem seems to improve if the user rename SID & SQLite folders, clears Travel History and deactivate it together with trafficTrends.

I must inform you that we have Auto Drive Hellas, a map from the local Garmin's representative here in Greece that works great with no problems at both cases i described earlier. This map has been our tool to compare routing & functionality problems with City Navigator Europe NTU.

I’m also a Nuvi 2595 LMT owner in Greece, and i’m facing the same exactly problem. Two months ago when i bought the navigator and i found out the problem, i phoned to the local Garmin service and complained about it. The man from the service told me to sent the navigator for further inspection, because it was the first time that he heard a problem like this..... Meanwhile, i began a research on the internet, and i discovered that a lot of people here in Greece are facing the screen freeze in the end of the routing, when the language in the device, has been set to Greek. I must say that any other language in the device has no problem and everything goes well. Personally i checked two new devices (2595LMT in both cases) in two separate specialized stores and the “Greek” problem also was there! Because i’ve owned an older device with NT maps, i can confirm no problems for thousands of kilometers in Greece and Europe. Seems that some bug create conflicts between NTU maps and Greek language settings in the device.
I must also complain about some strange routings, like these descripted by ''GREEKUSER'' with the NTU map.
To compare NTU with Auto drive seems that this second Greek map gives better results in routings and completly no freezing screens. It is a pity though, that this good map has no speed limits.

HELLO I am from greece and i have garmin nuvi 3590 LMT facing the screen freeze in the end of the routing, when the language in the device, has been set to Greek. Also i want to say that the language "tasos" is very bad and nobody use it .

I’m a Nuvi 3490 LMT owner from Greece, and I would like to report that I have many problems when I use Garmin's maps.

1) When I choose Greek language in the menu, nuvi crashes in the last mile when parking symbol is appearing on the screen.

2) I have to deal many times with incorrect routings when I use your maps.

3) Greek TTS is very bad!

Local Garmin service does not show any interest for our problems so I decided to complain in your forum.

Many people in Greece use nuvis for their navigation and I firmly believe that you will help us solving our problems.

This time i can report good news about the problem to complete a route when languange has been set to Greek. After upgrading in firmware version 7.90 nuvi 3490 & 2595 the problem was gone. I'm thankful to Garmin for listening to us and our problems but i have to report a new one that firmware 7.90 caused in InstaSearch. After typing an address or poi, device can locate it but keeps searching for ever until you press the result and in that case it freezes. User have to keep On/Off button for some seconds to soft reset the device. This issue appears in Greek language not in English. Another issue with 7.90 is how devices displays custom poi ...

I can't believe that Garmin wanted the custom poi icons to be shown as a double icon, probably has to do with a bug or something.

The main problem for us in Greece remains the routing problem when we use CN Europe as i metioned in first post. I did some tests using nuvi 3490 with City Navigator Europe 2013.41 and i would like to give you the results

The correct routing as it shows in the screenshot above, is as Auto Drive Hellas 2.40T (Greek local map provider & representative of Garmin in Greece) and Navigon 4.80 Android with Navteq 2013.Q1 gives it.
