Garmin Fit App not uploading or letting me log in over wifi

I recently bought the Garmin Fit app as most of my training is on Garmin Connect. I am using the android version on Samsung Galaxy S3 but it will not let me log in or upload data over wifi only a mobile data connection. Is this normal?
