Oregon 450T with external memory card and Topo 24K DVD

Hello – I just purchased the Oregon 450T. I also purchased an external 8G micro SD memory card and the Topo 24K DVD for the Northeast. I manually copied all of the files on the DVD onto the external memory card; however, I cannot get the GPS to recognize any of the files on the external memory card. Nevertheless, I transferred some of the 24K data (Connecticut and Rhode Island) via BaseCamp into internal memory and it works fine. How can I get the Oregon 450T to access the entire 24K Northeast topo map on the external memory card?
  • You need to use Basecamp to send the maps to the card, just as you did for internal memory. Your GPS can't read files directly copied from the DVD.

Thanks Sussamb. I'll give this a try. I started doing that but the file transfer was going to take over 2-1/2 hours so I stopped and did a direct file transfer.

It takes quite a while to create the .img file. I have Topo 24k Southwest on a card in my 450.

PS: I created the .img a few years ago with MapSource 6.16.3. As I recall it took about 12 hours.

It worked! To cut the transfer time, I plugged the micro SD card directly into my laptop, started BaseCamp, BaseCamp started MapSource to create the image file. Total time around 1 hour 45 minutes. Placed the micro SD in the 450T turned it on - and now I'm one happy camper. Thanks again Sussamb. :)
  • Glad all ok.

Just for anyone reading this thread note Basecamp uses MapInstall not Mapsource to send maps to GPS or sd card.
