Not possible to upload Fenix aviation activity

Former Member

Hello,

After my skiing trip I went home by bus. Since I did not want the new-lap-beep each kilometer, so I was lazy and changed the profile to aviation. At home I forgot to switch it back to running and so my last 3 runs are recorded in aviation mode.

To import the tracks with SportTracks is no problem. But GarminConnect does not recognize the new activities. And when I choose Manual import and mark the .gpx files, I get an error message that the import failed.

How can I import my running acitivitiy in aviation mode into garmin connect? Is it possible to change the activity in the .gpx file?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Markus
  • GPX files are just text files in XML format, so you should be able to edit it. It helps to have tools that understand XML, because if you open a GPX file with a standard text editor you'll find one long line of text. I use Mac OS X, which comes with xmllint, and simply "xmllint -format <filename>" on the command line will turn it into a more human readable format that Garmin Connect will still digest. But I've looked at a couple of GPX files from my Fenix that I have lying around and they don't mention an activity type, so that may not be the problem.

Does SportTracks have an export function? Can you export the file from SportTracks in some format that Garmin Connect will accept?

Or upload the GPX here - you can add it as an attachment to your message. Then I'll have a look at it to see if there's anything wrong with it.

Thank you very much for the two answers. Exporting it from SportTracks is definitely an option I will try now. I also attached one of the gpx files to this post. Maybe there is an obvious error with it??

    Thanks again for your help!

That file seems fine to me, and I uploaded it to Garmin Connect without any problems.
Are you sure that's the correct file? It all appears to be on water, and going at 20km/h, so its presumably not running.

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for your answer and sorry for my late replay. I was on a trip over easter and came back yesterday.

I tried again to upload the single files via the manual upload option and this worked also fine for me today. Not sure what happened the last time. But the option "Upload all new activities" after finding my Fenix still only shows me the activities from before I switched to the aviaiton profile and after I changed back to running. So it seems to me that aviation activities are not regarded or found in the "automatic upload". Even if I choose "Upload selected activities" the aviation one are not listed as shown in the figure:

Does GarminConnect use different data than the gpx files when I choose the automatic upload? Or can I maybe edit the activity on the Fenix (e.g. changing the activity mode)?

    Thanks again for your help!

PS: The activity I uploaded is from Ice skating, this is why it is on the water ;-) But I do not think that this is the problem. It is from the 17th March and not listed in the attached figure as an activity (since my Fenix was in aviation mode I presume).
