Garmin Nuvi 1310 problem with Favourites

Hi, I have a Nuvi 1310 and just lately I have been having problems with favourites. When I select favourites I get the words 2All Favourites2 followed by hundreds of numbers. If I select All Favourites I can find a list of my favourite places but if I select one of the numbers as though to edit or delete it, it shows up the distance and the direction to one or sometimes 2 of my favourites.

How can I get rid of all of these numbers without losing any of my favourites ?
  • Sorry, please excuse the 2 at the beginning and end of All Favourites, must have been a slip of the keyboard, or something, it should have been two apostrophes.
  • Unfortunately what you're experiencing can sometimes happen to the 13xx/14xx series and possibly other nuvis too. Normally it occurs after a map or software update. Do you have a back up of current.gpx? If so the best solution is to delete all the favourites from your 1310, then connect your GPS to your PC and copy your backup of current.gpx into the GPX folder of your nuvi. Note that before you copy it you must rename it, for example to temp.gpx. When you then disconnect your nuvi from the PC and reboot it temp.gpx will be merged into your nuvi and your favourites should be back to normal. Once that happens reconnect your GPS to your PC and delete temp.gpx or it will cause problems later on.

It hasn't happened to me for a very long time. Ensure that you have the latest firmware in your 1310 (v6.20)

  • Did to me the other week :(

Prior to that it'd been a while :)

Well that sucks. It's a real PITA to fix :(
  • Not if you have a back up of current.gpx, although this time it was only about 5 favourites involved so I simply edited them directly on the nuvi.

Well I have backups of everything. In the past I've just erased everything in the unit, renamed current.gpx to temp.gpx, and got it back to normal that way. That said it's probably been 2 years...

I used to think this was due to filesystem corruption but that doesn't seem to be the case. Not sure why it happens.
  • That's the way to do it ... :), just hope the OP has a back up ... the alternatives if there are lots of numerical categories IS a real PITA

Well one can copy current.gpx and hand edit that and do the erase thing. Still a PITA but slightly less.
  • Or use Basecamp or Mapsource to edit current.gpx
