I live in MO so I take a lot of long trips. I posted about anyone living in OK since I plan on a trip down there. I should have said anyone that has made trips out there get back with me. I have made trips to a lot of states but not much down in the OK or TX areas. Plan on doing the Route 66 travel. In MO the Route 66 is pretty much hacked up with HWY 44. I think in OK that isn't the case. Don't know since I haven't traveled there.

I go to a lot of biker rallies all over in IL, Iowa etc.

A little story about using a GPS... I traveled to Michigan last year to see my sister in Redford. I tried using my Samsung SII as a GPS. Huge mistake! The highways were under construction and I got turned around and ended up on Ohio. Go figure! Worse I did not know if that was a helmet state or not! I found out it was and here I am cruising all around no helmet on. Past up many cop cars and never got pulled over. LOL :) The point is I was losing connection and did not get complete updates and was guessing as to where I was headed.

That is when I said ok I have had enough so I purchased the 3590 LMT. This thing is awesome! I would have purchased the Zumo but sorry the price was ridiculous. I use my 3590 for both the bike and auto. While it may not be waterproof, if in rain I would just stow it away.

Everyone on the forum has been helpful with me getting BaseCamp figured out and it works great for mapping out trips.

What would be cool if others that ride and have great roads to ride on could share their BaseCamp routes with each other by state.

Personally I find Tracks (non-auto unit terminology)/Trip logs (auto unit terminology) superior to routes for this purpose. The former show where you went vs where you plan to go. Map errors/omissions are not an issue with tracks/trip logs. If you drove it but its not on the map then the line with show that.

I don't know if your unit (3590LMT) can create detailed (vs the default) trip logs but I love being able to do it with my 1490T. I've used that to document multi-day drives before.

When I get a little more proficient with the device I will report back what I have determined by doing some real testing. Many times I have found fault with myself or logic without fully understanding what I am doing or what the software is able to function. "Jumping to conclusions without facts!"

I think that happens many times when people make statements without backing things up. I guess I have worked in IT for 30 years and have become persistant making sure I have all of the facts before blatantly saying something that is not true. LOL :)

I have already found fault with my logic with BaseCamp without doing more research. I will say the video's are very helpful!

Well being ignorant/uninformed isn't a crime. Being willfully so is IMO. Reminds me of the joke "Were you born stupid or did you have to work at it?".

Like anything one learns from training and/or experience. Play with your toy, read about it (online etc), and you'll be fine :)

What is the difference between navigating a track verses a route? I'm riding horseback using an Oregon 450.
