Advertising or membership fee to get better features?

Not too sure how this will go down, but here it goes.

I have been reading through many of the feature requests in this forum and there are some fantastic ideas there.

Obviously we the end user are not taken too seriously as there is little money to be made by Garmin in implementing them. However, I for one would be happy to pay a small annual fee or put up with advertising on the site if it ment that use the user got to see some of the fantastic ideas suggested in this forum. I understand that there is third party software out there that offers many of these features, but I would love to see one site that has the lot, specifically design for those of us commited to using the Garmin products. Maybe something as simple as the site contains advertising and by paying a small annual subscrition we could get the additional features and no advertising. So the basic user would still get all the current functionality for free.

Just putting it out there. What do others think?

I'd think that would be a real complicated piece of programming. Aviation, Marine, Auto, Runners, Swimmers, Bikers, Hikers, Geocachers and so on. It would certainly be nice if every good idea could be put in a site, but even so, not everyone is going to agree with the way it's implemented. So there would still be a lot of screaming and belly-aching.

I favor the sites that have a narrow focus of users. I see no reason to want to stick with garmins tools just because I own a garmin unit. I would just ask that Garmin be as open as possible with third party developers so these sites devoted to a certain group can take full advantage of the data these Garmin units can obtain.

That being said, I still use GC.
