I have two GPS60CSX's. I have begun to use one of them in my vehicle when I am on long trips. It is constantly plugged in to 12 volts. At its very brightest setting, it is still so dim during the day as to be relatively useless, except if I remove sunglasses and put my face almost right up to its screen. The other unit works identically, so it is not an issue with just the one unit. At night, the screen is easy to see because the ambient light is less (I guess), or does the GPS60CSX somehow adjust? Any ideas? How does a hiker with sunglasses see his GPS in the middle of a bright day if he is only on battery power?
I also have created a couple of custom waypoint icons in my MapSource but they don't transfer to the GPS when I send waypoints to either unit. In the GPS's they just come up with the "flag" icon. How do I get custom icons on my units?
When I name a new waypoint, I am allowed only 14 characters, yet the recent find names have 17 characters. If I give a waypoint more than 14 characters in MapSource, it is trimmed to 14 characters when it is transferred to the unit, then if all of the waypoints are re-imported at a later time to the same MapSource document, they are added because they have unique (trimmed to 14 characters) names and I end up having two waypoints per actual location. Is there a way around this 14 character limit?
Is there a way to convert a "recent find" to a waypoint? One of the advantages of this is that it would now become permanent and transferrable between units. Plus if the find information (especially if it is an address) were migrated to the comment area of the newly created waypoint, it would save re-entry of the information and become even more useful.
It feels good to get these questions out of my system. Now I can tear up all my little notes. Any help would be appreciated especially on the brightness issue.
