BaseCamp!

OK I get the 3590 isn't great for routes and Garmin has gone to trips.

I also get there are not many options to choose from to make routes.

Looking at BaseCamp which I think is pretty lame compared to Google Maps.

I also have been working on this for more hours than I really care too but I am not giving up on this. With BaseCamp using the 3590 Nav map I can create to points and create a track to each one. Why you can't alter that track and move it just bugs me. You can do that in Google Map!

Since I can do that in Google Map which creates the route and directions from a point to point does anyone know of a good way to maybe import that into BaseCamp or push it to the 3590 as a trip?

I also looked at the Garmin Trip and Waypoint but have no clue if it would make things easier or not. So any 3590 users out there that have that software please let me know your thoughts and also the questions above.

Thanks,
Mike

I also looked at the Garmin Trip and Waypoint but have no clue if it would make things easier or not.

Garmin Trip & Waypoint Manager is an obsolete product. It is simply MapSource (which you can download and install for free) with a basic world map (which you can't transfer to a unit).

Now some of us here actually prefer MapSource to BaseCamp but that's a whole other subject.

    MapSource vs BaseCamp

Now I use MapSource to create routes etc but it can be done in BaseCamp. I'll let one of BaseCamp people address your specific questions :)

Don't use Google maps so can't help you there, but to alter/move a route in Basecamp you can use a combination of the insert/move/erase tools. From what you say I suspect you need to play around with the insert tool, which will allow you to 'rubber band' routes.

BTW Garmin has some online videos to show you how to use BaseCamp.

    http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/basecamp/

The "Routes" one may be of use.

I guess I should have looked at the video! LOL :) It took a few attempts to get it routed with adding waypoints but it does work!
So despite what others may think you can create the single route on a 3590LMT. Basically it all boils down to understanding how BaseCamp works.
    Thanks!

Well your 3590LMT will convert routes (from BaseCamp etc) to trip(s). That said they're not exactly the same but if it's working for you then... :)

If it takes me on the roads I want to travel I don't care if it is called a route or trip! LOL :) The end result is good enough for me. I have spent a lot of time hacking through different ways of obtaining my goal. The last GPS I used was a Etrek Vista and using Mapsource. Too many years gone by and a lot of changes in technology and software.

I will say everyone has been great on the forum!

Now if I can get my handle changed to remove the email address things will be better. :)

Too late. I've already signed that email up to receive all kinds of spam ;)
