3590LMT Trip Planner Trips cannot be removed!

The 3590 LMT under the category of Trip Planner - Trips cannot be removed.

Before anyone jumps in about other threads let me first say I have gone through all that pertain to the subject I could find.

With the Garmin connected to the PC I have gone to the internal storage under GPX and deleted all of the files. As one post suggested you also have to delete the temp.gpx. That is no where to be found on the device! I have searched for hidden files etc on the internal storage and it does not show up.

What I find disturbing is the fact that even if you use Base Camp you are not given the tools to clean out the storage and start fresh!

One would think that under under Garmin Express the tool may be there to clean out the old trip files.

If anyone has a clue how to clear off of the device I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mike in MO!

I don't own (deliberately!) a 3590LMT or any unit that has "trips" but are you saying you can't delete them within the unit itself? The feature maybe buried in the menu system somewhere,

Only a few models allow BaseCamp or other external software to delete data from the unit.

As Stuart has already posted, you cannot delete info off the nuvis except via their own menus

Thanks for the tip SUSSAMB and all! I figured it out. I feel like I am geocaching on the gps and looking for little treasures! LOL :)

Is it just me or do others think that is horrible way to remove trips? You don't even get the option to select "ALL".

I think it's horrible to have a unit that uses "trips" (vs Routes) :D

Don't want my GPS to "have a bad trip" ;)

    Sturart I agree with you!
  • Trips are saved in directory \.System\Trips and can be deleted when you switch nuvi form MTP mode to mass storage.
  • If you want to do that:

    1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
    2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
    3. The Developers Screen will pop up
    4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
    5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
    6. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
    7. Start NUVI and it should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

You'll also have to set Windows Explorer to show hidden and system files:
