How do you set Heart Rate in Workouts?

When planning a workout, if I want the interval to run until my heart rate is above or below a chosen level, how do I do that in Garmin Connect? I can set an interval in my 800 to run until - for example - the heart rate > 150. In Garmin Connect, the Duration shows as Heart Rate 150. When downloaded to the 800, this becomes "until Heart Rate < 150" which is completely useless.

Am I doing something incorrectly, or is this a bug?
  • I am having the exact same problem/question. Setting a step duration to Heart Rate value of eg 150, when synched to watch, the step reports as Heart Rate < 150, which is not what the Connect was prior representing.
Bug, or mistaken Step creation?? Thank you
  • I'm having the same problem - it just skips the step on the Fenix 2 when I set Duration Heart Rate 180
  • It appears that when you setup an interval with a heart rate duration it triggers the next step when your heart rate is less than the BPM rate that you inputted. Is there a way to have the next step triggered when you reach you BPM going up and not just down. i.e. until BPM is greater than ...

By digging around in the forum I learned that you can use Garmin Training Center to do this. It worked well with my Edge 810. A bit of an antiquated UI but works just fine.

Alternatively, you can create the workout with garmin connect, set the duration to be heart rate, send the workout to your 810, and then, on the 810, modify the step so that it is until HR > whatever you want to be.

Garmin connect development team- please add this as a standard feature and not something people have to wrestle with! It's implemented perfectly on the device side.
