I have been fighting with the interface of Garmin Connect and my Edge 810. When I go to upload activities, it obviously won't search it automatically since I write to a SD card not internal memory. I am fine with that. When I selece manual upload however, then select my E: drive which is my SD card, it starts reading and hangs there and never stops. The only way I can upload my activities is to manually search them in my computer and upload them. Any ideas why it hangs when reading my SD card?
Garmin Edge 810 - Failure to upload data, despite device being located.
Same problem, Edge 800.
New Garmin 810 has three activities recorded now, but will not upload to either Garmin Connect or to Garmin Training Center software. It instantly reports "Upload completed" on Training Center, but nothing is there. On Garmin Connect, it says no activities to upload, even in manual mode. When I look on the 810 device, it has recorded data totals for each of my three activities.
I checked that the software was all up to date. I continue to be able to sync from my Edge 705 without issue.
Anyone have any ideas?
And, while I'm asking, what is typical battery life for the 810? I can do an eight hour ride easily on the 705 and have plenty of battery spare. My 810 seems to die after 5 hours, even after charging 12 or more hours and showing 100%. Is there a key setting that results in intense battery usage? (And yes, I checked the screen backlighting.)
I have the auto upload problem, it recognizes my edge 800 and starts to upload my recent activities but then just hangs and I have to do a manual upload which works ok. Is it possible for a Garmin moderator to read these messages and help!?
I have the exact same problem: The only way I can upload my activities is to manually search for them (in my G: drive) and upload them. And when I select the G: drive to upload from, I get the message, "Reading activities from 0101155100 (G:\), please wait...", and it hangs! Is this an issue Garmin plans to fix? Also, my battery only drained about 40% today after about a 4.5-hour ride. Battery life is supposed to be "15 hours, typical usage".
Why don't you call garmin support and see what they can do to help your upload issue.
Battery life is dependent on other factors. Backlighting being a big drain, using bluetooth, if your device has it is another draw on the battery. The 15 typical I would imagine was figured under a 'typical' circumstance that was more ideal to the salespeople involved in the process.
I just purchased a Garmin Edge 800 since the price is much better than the newer Edge 810 model. I have OSM maps loaded onto an external SD card and have no problems using those maps and no issues viewing internal memory or the SD card when I plug the Edge 800 into my Macbook Air running OS X 10.9.4. I can transfer new routes to the Newfiles directory and they show up on the Edge 800 without a problem.
But like others in this thread, I cannot upload the three activities I have just recorded from the external 16GB SD card. I'm bumping this thread so others see it and are aware that the Garmin Edge 800 has this problem. I will edit the post if I find a resolution so others aren't stuck like me, but if there's no resolution within a day or two this unit will be heading back to Amazon.com.
On a tangential note, I almost hope there isn't a resolution since the Edge 800 is so much more difficult to read on a ride than my Edge 500. I was already having good luck with turn-by-turn directions on the Edge 500, and I'm not finding the mapping features on the Edge 800 add very much. I'd almost prefer to pull out my smartphone and use Google Maps if I ever veered far off-course on a ride while being guided by my Edge 500.
[EDIT: Here's a longer thread that indicates the problem hasn't been fixed and may never be fixed.]
