Editing Activities in Garmin Connect

Hi all.

Sorry to post this if it has already been covered but I tried a quick search with no immediate luck so I thought I'd put it out there anyway...

In Garmin Connect, is it possible to edit the sections of an activity. For example, in a swim this morning, I stopped mid-set at the end of a lap to empty the water out of my leaky goggles. It recorded that short period of time as a lap so that particular set ended up being 450m instead of 400m (but apparently I swam that 50m in about 20s which I was rather impressed by  ). Is there a way to delete the "phantom lap" from the activity? Alternatively, can I edit the details to change it to a rest period of 0m in length?

Similarly, I've been for rides and runs in the past where I forget to hit the stop button when I get back home. I wander around for a few minutes and then realise that it's still recording. Is there a way to truncate the activity in Garmin Connect at the point when I actually stopped the ride/run and effectively delete the bits where it recorded me taking off my shoes and grabbing a drink etc etc?

    ... No...

But ... You can open a .tcx file in a tool like Microsoft's free XMLNotePad (tcx files are XML) and delete the extra nodes from the file pretty easily.

I forgot to hit the reset button before a huge trail run and want to separate these two activities. Thanks for leading me to the XML file.

how about a slider to edit exercise sessions?

strava lets you edit your ride with a slider. it takes about 20 seconds to fix a ride after forgetting to press "STOP" at the end of a devastating workout. come on garmin, where are you?

  • Here is a fix for your issue.

See link above. Worked great for me. So sad and shameful that people have to resort to developing this functionality on their own because Garmin has done NOTHING at all to the Garmin Connect tool since June of 2013. Garmin used to be a company that cared about their customers and the experience after the purchase, but evidence seems to indicate that they now care about pumping out watches and you are on your own after you buy it.

Go ahead Garmin, prove me wrong.

If you still have this good old program called Garmin Training Center on you computer, like I do, then consider this workaround. In GTC you can delete the laps you don't want and then export the activity. In Garmin Connect you import the file (after deleting the original one). The import function in GC is a bit hidden. Hit the "Upload" button, then click on the link that is called something like "Upload manually" and select the file on your computer.

    Garmin BaseCamp

I just got my Garmin and have had this problem already.. forgetting to press stop. I was led to the solution of opening the file in another program and deleting entries. I downloaded BaseCamp on my macbook and used the program to delete the portions of data that were not part of my run, then exported the file to my desktop, then uploaded the file back to Garmin Connect... seemed to work really well.

I agree it's a shame Garmin does not support this. After what I paid for my 910XT, I'll have to think twice about buying another one. However, if you export it to Strava, you CAN edit it there. I've resorted to using Strava as my workout database. I used to use it pre-Garmin when I used it to track my runs and rides with my cell phone (iPhone). Hopefully Garmin will wake up soon! I thought their old program used to support this... now you can't do a full edit, only short edits... bummer!

Still we don't have this functionality in 2016? Damn...
  • Just another "me, too". Hard to believe Garmin don't care enough to implement this after all this time. It's back to Strava for me.
