Hi,
I recently bought a Garmin Montana 650 as a replacement for a broken gpsmap 62s. I only use it for trail hiking so I am not interested in its road navigation capabilities.
I would like to be able to enter several waypoints on the unit's map, create a route from them and then navigate the route from waypoint to waypoint. My problem is that the unit invariably trys to route me via the nearest roads and I end up with a rats nest of tracks on the display which alternate between waypoints and the nearest road. I have tried reading the manual and changing routing /profile preferences but I just cant get it to behave like my old 62s.
Another problem I find is with waypoints. If I am walking toward a waypoint when navigating a route the unit shows the direction (and distance) to the waypoint. If I do not walk exactly on top of the waypoint (not always possible) but start to walk past, the unit doesn't seem to 'realize' and continues to point at the waypoint I've 'missed' with the distance to waypoint increasing! I have owned three previous Garmin units and they would all (even my Gecko) typically work out that I have passed the waypoint and begin to route me to the next one.
If anybody could help I'd be grateful,
Cheers,
Andy.
