Is the 3590LMT Smartphone Link capable?

I have a 3590LMT and a Samsung Galaxay Skyrocket S II. I bought several of the Smartphone app's (weather & traffic cam's). I was unable to get the Garmin to talk with the Skyrocket.

After a call to Garmin support, I was told the 3590LMT is not compatible with the Skyrocket. They said to check "www.garmin.com/bluetooth" for phones that are Smartphone Link capable.

When I click on the link www.garmin.com/bluetooth and then "Find Garmin devices",the Nuvi 3590LMT is not listed at all.

Also, I could not find a single phone in the "Search supported mobile devices" that indicated it was compatible with the 3590LMT.

It's almost like the 3590LMT isn't Smartphone Link capable in spite of the fact that it has a Smartphone Link menu and it came with the attached card.

Any thoughts?
  • Nobody out there has a 3950LMT?
  • I can confirm that it works rather flawlessly with my SonyEricsson Xperia Arc (2010). I don not use the paid services though but any other ones are working fine (weather update etc.).

Quick glance here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.garmin.android.apps.phonelink&hl=en confirms that 3590LMT is supported. Not sure about SAMSUNG though...
  • Thanks for the above link to homelink at Google play. It looks like I'm not the only one having issues based on the following reviews? Very strange as this should be a very straightford app????

Smartphone Link doesn't work for me, either!!!!!!!

I have a brand new Garmin 3950 which I thought was top-of-the-line. I bought the weather and traffic camera app (total = $30) and the app doesn't communiate with my Samsung Galaxy SII. Like many other reviewers on this web-page, I get the message "Cannot find any Garmin live services" on my smartphone. I was on the Garmin Tech Support line and they we unable to fix the problem. I am very disappointed since a card came in the 3950 box that says "Do you have an Amdroid Smartphone"? I do and unfortunately wasted $30 buying subscriptions that don't work with my Andtoid Smartphone. Buyer beware!!!!

    Disgraceful app and support

The only thing the latest version (1.3.3) allowed me to do was buy weather for £20. After this it has refused to do anything and Garmin refuse to issue a refund saying incorrectly that Google Play should refund an in-app purchase. If trying this app, test to make sure the free basic weather app works on your Nuvi before buying any options as you will not be able to get your money back. Buyer beware! (Using Nexus 4 Android 4.2.2 and 3490LMT)

    Dave Scott - February 1, 2013 - Version 1.3.3

    Doesn't Work

Downloaded to my Nexus 4, paired with 3490. I get the 4 Icons on the phone, but am told "Cannot find any Garmin Live Services" when I select the Garmin Live Services icon on the phone. The parking app does something, but other than that nothing. Well they said they updated it, but still don't get squat. Can make calls, but always get the message "Cannot find any Garmin live services" Way to go Garmin.

    Typical Garmin.

What a joke. Like everything Garmin nowadays... it barely works. I'll bet they're out of business in another year.

Mike Larwood - December 6, 2012 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus with version 1.3.2

    Poor Support

Over a week since I logged a fault that when moving from one handset to another (a fairly straightforward task that every smartphone user is going to do at some point or another) I have lost all access to services - no traffic, nothing. Garmin support have shrugged their shoulders and it's been passed to Application Development but nobody is keeping me up to date with what is happening with £300 of sat nav. Buying a TomTom next time with this stuff built in.

Dosen't work with Samsung Galaxy S III

According to Garmin, the Galaxy S III is not a supported phone. Period! I have a nuvi 3590LMT and the Bluetooth calling features appear to work, but Smartphonelink fails to establish a data connection.

    Karsten Müller - January 1, 2013 - Version 1.3.2

    doesn't work with Nexus 4

It tells me to check bluetooth settings, then i pair/connect the 2595LM, but after doing that (bt connection is successful and stable for handsfree calls) it just goes back to the initial screen and continues to tell me to check bluetooth settings. The 4 icons that are supposed to show up never show up. Please look into this issue. It seems that quite a few other popular phones are affected by the same issue.

    Kev Fenton - January 7, 2013 - Version 1.3.2

    Useless

Garmin support useless. Traffic will not work though I get a full Bluetooth connection to my Xperia T. Conplete waste of £19.99 and the reason why the enire unit is going back to Amazon and a Tom Tom purchased as a replacement. First and last Garmin devuce. Utterly appaling.....

    Disappointed

Paid for traffic through app and received nothing, Garmin support dreadful. Received a Google refund and it went through the second time. However seems to work okay after it is setup hence 3 stars.

    Nuvi 3590LMT
    Samsung Galazy sIII

Everything worked great until I upgraded the 3590's Firmware/Software. Before the upgrade, I purchased the Advanced Weather option and used it over a very wide area. Then after the Firmware/Software upgrade, I've been able to send locations from Google Maps to the sIII and still import the contacts from my phone as well as make/receive calls....but the weather app on the Nuvi just continues to 'update' without ever displaying any info. And the GPS shows the Weather Radar/Weather Alerts/Road Conditions pages, but without any real-time data like it did before the update.

Also, before when you opened the Smartphone Link app on the Galaxy s3 and clicked on the 'Garmin Live Services', you would see both the subscribed service (Advanced Weather) AND the other services that I hadn't subscribed to yet (photoLive & fuel Prices). And the only time I see the Link Antenna symbol on the Nuvi start screen (next to the battery) is when I restart the Nuvi with the phone in range. If I take the phone out of Bluetooth range, the symbol won't show even tho the Nuvi has reconnected to the phone.

I have Unpaired, un-installed, repaired, re-installed everything multiple times. Can't think of what else to try. It's almost like the phone/GPS is having some sort of verification issue with the subscription.
  • Very strange, indeed. I have similar problems.

Looks like I wasted $30 on the subscriptions
  • I came here to see if I could figure out what was wrong with my connection to my Nuvi 3590LM. While I was reading this I was trying different things. It worked just fine until an update back in March (February) somewhere in there. Then the bluetooth just quit working. I thought it was my phone as I had updated its software as well. After months of giving up, I got a new pad and it didn't connect to it either. Then I knew that it was the nuvi. Today I was trying to find the solution on here and while I was doing that I found the problem and fixed it.

    The answer:

Go to Settings->Bluetooth. Click on the Menu button (the lines bottom right), then click on Restore. I know, it doesn't make sense, but it should work. After it restores, do not change any of the settings just yet. Make sure the green checkbox in Bluetooth is checked. Set your phone to be discovered, then click on Add and search for your phone. It should find it and you can then pair the devices.

This worked like a charm for me. Hopefully it will work for you.

    Enjoy!
  • Jazernorth:

Thanks for your suggestions, but unfortunately the "Restore" trick didn't work. I did just receive a Smartphone Link update on my phone this a.m.. I just installed it and now everything works!!!

    Thanks again.

Thank you so much - I was pulling my hair out trying to get a Nexus 4 re-linked after a software update. This took care of the problem.
  • how to send loction to garmin smartphone link thru google maps

I found the way you can send locations from mobile google maps to garmin thru smartphone link. lately mobile google maps has been sending wrong locations to garmins thru smartphone link like 1000's miles away since garmin doesn't take addresses just cordinates. First find the location in mobile google maps them try to zoom in the location you want to send it garmin. Then press and hold on the very next to location red icon for one or two second and you will get new red icon very next to your location on google maps. Then same as usual just tap on the new red icon then you will get few options and tap on share and choose smartphone link.
