Garmin Connect website course creator - possible to recognise footpaths

Is it possible to get the website course creator to recognise or at least show footpaths?
Otherwise making maps for hiking new routes is almost impossible - making my new Garmin Edge 800 almost completely redundant.
Could do with knowing soon so I can take it back if its as useless for hiking as I fear.

Ah, thankfully a friend has stepped in and given the answer I was hoping for.
Basically don't plan routes on the Garmin Connect website - its terrible.
Use wheresthepath, export the route as a gpx file and put that onto the Edge.
Brilliant!

It highlights one of many reasons why the GC website is actually so rubbish. I can also see why there's no point in updating it - cos other websites already exist that everyone uses and are far better.
Thankfully I still the the actual Garmin device is really good
