Formatted internal Hard Drive Garmin 1490 - please help

I am a fool. Please no questions why. I was updating my micro SD card and formatted the hard drive instead :(

I have formatted my internal satnav's hard drive and now I can't see the sat nav in...

A: Garmin website
B: Garmin WebUpdater
C: On my mac via disk utility
D: via Windows on my mac via windows bootcamp (laptop).

I just can't see the drive to add anything back onto it. I have a complete backup of the drive but as I can not see the drive, I can't do anything.

I believe it was formatted to FAT. The machine starts up but stays in the "Garmin Logo" screen and stays there. I even try and see the micro SD card that is inserted but it won't mount either.

Please help in simple english as I have already googled many times, "formatted internal 1490" and read 100s of posts but never found a solution.

Thanks in advance. :D
  • Have you called Garmin support to see what they'd offer you to resolve your issue? Sometimes they go over and above what you'd expect. Sometimes they don't. But you'll never know if you don't ask them. As previously mentioned this is just a "user" supported forum, Garmin's not obligated to say or do anything here.

    new drive..

did you manage to solve this problem? i have the same issuse

Google how to add a harddrive to your computer.
After it has a drive letter, you should be able to load your backup data.
  • Hi!

I did exactly this: don’t ask why I did it.
    Model: Garmin Drive Assist 50.
Did you find a successful resolution?

I received an email message from Garmin saying: they do not repair this model anymore and that they will offer a 20% discount to buy a new one.

I am so sure that there is a solution available, it’s just time and it’ll be found.

Please help me too Slight smile

    Thanks!

    Maz

  • I have the same issue. Did anyone solve it?

  • You could try borrowing the same (functional) model from someone else owning it, and using a drive cloning tool - there are plenty of them around, typically used for example for copying old HDD to SSD.

Just do not format the borrowed unit too Smiley !!!

  • I am struggling to find someone with a working / functional Garmin drive assist 50.
Do you happen to have one or someone you know and willing to share the files?
