Garmin upload of mapmyride course

Garmin, PLEASE answer this question since I have scoured the internet for the last 3 hours and not yet found a good answer.

Why can't I upload a MapMyRide GPX file?

When I download a map from MapMyRide in GPX format, and then try to manually upload it to my Garmin Connect so I can use it as a course, it says "Some activities could not be created." The ironic thing is right below that, it says: "We currently support .tcx .gpx and .fit files." If that was true, then I wouldn't have this problem. I've tried multiple different GPX files from mapmyride (i.e. I've used other routes), I've downloaded GPSBabel to translate it into tcx file format and then gpx format again just for the *** of it, but no luck. I've used RideWithGPS and tried to turn it into a tcx file, but I still get the same answer.

PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS, IT IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING (and its ridiculous that it has to be this hard just to upload a map!!!).

Thank you.

You can't upload GPX files or TCX files to Garmin Connect unless they have timestamps. If you export a GPX file from MapMyRide, it won't have any timestamps.

You could add fake timestamps to the GPX track. eg using GPSBabel with the "faketime" option. See http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-1.4.4/filter_track.html
Then you should be able to upload it to Garmin Connect.

Thanks very much Craig, I'll try that out when I get a bit more time to look into the link you sent.

If anyone from Garmin actually reads these forums - please make it easier to upload a course from MapMyRide if you really want people to use your Courses. It not only makes it more useful to people like me, but it builds up a larger catalog of courses on Garmin, which means in the future people like me won't have to look up courses on MapMyRide because they can't find any on Garmin that match the route they want.
  • @Garmin Support - Please make it easier to import from MapMyRide.

  • Please make it easier to import from MapMyRide.

What exactly is the problem you're having? Assuming you're trying to import a course as the OP stated "upload it to my Garmin Connect so I can use it as a course"

    From mapmyride DOWNLOAD GPX

From Garmin Connect Courses. click on Import

Drag and drop the GPX file onto the import courses dialog box.
