nuvi 750/760 DC power

I have an old nuvi that I thought was a 760, but comes up as a 750 on its registration with Garmin. This was my moms and didn't have the best life(got her a new one and inherited this one). The battery was awful so I just replaced it successfully... side note, it didn't show that it was recalled but the battery life was so poor that the device wasn't useable at all even plugged into the car, for years.

After putting the device back together I tried to put the flat end of the cable that comes from the cigarette lighter back into the back of the device. It wouldn't seat securely so I looked it over-the pins inside are bent/broken.

I do have a cigarette lighter USB adapter and a mini USB cable, so I can connect the device to AC or DC power-BUT the device won't function when using the mini USB socket. Is there a way to override this, or will I be able to make trips with the device before the battery dies? If I can't leave that plugged in, I'll be without its use when charging it via USB. I know that the new battery is going to be a heck of a lot better than the original and can charge it before heading out.

It looks like the cable to replace this is $20 and the female part in the device might be damaged anyway. I don't want to spend much on this old unit with outdated maps, but I would like to maximize its functionality as we don't have another one or a smartphone.

Thanks,
Skye

The problem could be the cable itself.
Did you try a different cable?

The pins inside the female plug do not go into seperate holes in the male plug.
They are bent up in a slight arc at the back and make contact by sliding like little skids up against the inside wall of the male plug.
It is a fairly sturdy setup and not easily bent.

I don't have another cable to try and don't wish to spend $20+ on one to check it out. The pins are definitely bent/broken on the female and male ends(unless the female part always has some longer and shorter ones? It looks odd and uneven)-I'm sure it's gone through a lot, my mom is kind of rough on electronics.

I'm happy to charge it another way(via USB at home or in the car)but am worried about it being unusable while charging if I happen to need it at that time... I'm not sure how much warning it will provide, either.

    Thanks,
