In october 2012 i attended the bike show at the NEC, with cash in hand i visited the Garmin stand to discuss what units were on offer and the pros and cons et etc, also during this discussion i asked if any new models were planned for 2013.

The sales rep said nothing was planned till 2014 and so i parted with £250 of hard earned saved cash and bought myself a edge 500 with heart rate monitor cadence sensor etc knowing that it wouldnt really get used over the winter period but at least i would have a valid device for 2013.

However yesterday i recived a email shot that stated that a new model is out the edge 510 and that it has the features that i thought were lacking in the 500, social networking for example. If i had known this i would not have purchased there and then but waited till the new model came out.

So not only do i have a hardly used device, but now its out of date, many thanks to the lying sales rep who sold it to me

sorry if this is not the right forum but just had to get it off my chest

Impulse buying and buyer's regret are closely linked. In reality, you did not research the product using several independent sources. You relied on what sales personnel told you. Well, they did their job, sold you the unit! That's what they are there for a and get paid to do! Would you trust a car salesperson like that, or would you do some research? I'm sorry you are not happy with your purchase but you should have researched it better. OTOH, a little consolation. Garmin has the habit to release newer unit with software that is at the beta stage, and they use their customers as beta testers. Sure, things get fixed, but it takes time. Quite often, you end up with several additional features that were not even announced. It is kind of an adventure, has it ups and downs. Some like it, others hate it vehemently.

    @ sarlabs.

Im not saying i regret buying the product its a great peice of kit, and as for impulse buying that was something it was not. I did lots of research looking at other models like the bryton, cats eye etc but this stood out from the rest. At no time during my searching did i see any mention of new cycling computer from garmin only watches for running.

And your right the sales men was onky just doing his job

The Edge 510 and 810 were only announced a few weeks ago. So not many people would have known about before that, its unlikely any sales rep had heard about in October.

The Edge 500 is better than the 510 in some ways. eg it is much smaller, and it doesn't have a touchscreen.

Go check out DCrainmakers review. You may feel better about having the 500 and not the 510 for the timebeing
