Etrex 20 - if batteries die what is actually lost

Hi gang,

Just bought an Etrex 20 a couple weeks ago and I'm used to all the functions. Been doing some short hikes to get used to it. Just a quick question, I noticed when I use it again after it has been off for a few days that a previous track that I have taken still exists until I clear it.

This made me think of something. If the batteries die in mid-hike, then I replace it with new ones, is my track that I was recording lost? If not, what is actually lost? What about created waypoints? If I just create them but dont save them will they be lost?

Just want to be sure disaster wont happen if it dies on a real hike

Thank you
