sorry if this has been asked before... my Nuvi 710 has just had latest software update and now when i start it and go to 'address' it shuts down completely... also found that if you select 'intersections' the same thing happens... any clues folks??...many thanks in advance
  • If you've updated your nuvi and you're getting weird behaviour the first thing to try is a hard reset, you can find out how to do that here:

Note that post also makes the point that you will lose all your favourites, but explains how to back them up first
  • You could certainly try rolling back the firmware. If you didn't keep a copy of the gupdate.gcd file previous versions are available here http://gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/
  • Yours is a 700 series model so the 7xx software should work on your 710, it's available on that site for 4.90 and 5.40 software versions.

Download the gcd file, rename it gupdate.gcd and pop it into the Garmin folder on your nuvi, reboot and it should reload the software. You may get a message telling you that's it's an older version but then you know that already :)

I don't have your model and am assuming it doesn't have a .system folder like the current nuvis. If by chance it does the file needs to be put in the .system folder
  • Brilliant maybe, not sure about the genius bit :)

Glad it's now working for you. Now's the time to make a full back up should you ever need it.
