EcoRoute HD wont connect on restart!
I install HD connection and it is working fine but when I turn the car of and then restart, the dongle will not fire up unless I reset or unplug it for a second.
It was working before I changed a very bad battery. I guess that the battery lost so much voltage under start that it was the same as unplugging for a second.
The car is a Smart Roadster.
Anybody has a solution for this?

There is one more thing that differs now compared to when it was working properly.
When I turned the engine off the GPS said something like "external power supply has been turned of device will turn off in 15 seconds" and then You could abort and then after 15-20 seconds there was a click and the dongle turned off and the GPS again says "external power supply has been turned of device will turn off in 15 seconds"
But now the second turning off thing never appears. Can that be an indication of what the problem is? Why it does not start up when I start the car?

The car is a Smart Roadster.

I'm guessing that's an electric or hybrid vehicle. That may have something to do with it.

The ecoRoute HD ( I have one for my 1490T) requires re-pairing whenever it loses power. This happened recently when I got a new car battery. It also happens if I unplug it from the vehicles ODB II connector. From that I conclude that the ecoRoute HD receives power via the ODB II connector even when the ignition is turned off. It could be that the Smart Roadster doesn't provide constant power or interrupts it. That'd be a question for your dealer.

No it is not a hybrid! It is only combustion engine.
It does have a supply of power when the engine is turned of because it does not have to be reinstalled every time I start the car. I can start it by pressing the reset button, then it starts as soon as the blue diode lights up, or I can unplug it for a second and then re plug it, that works the same as the reset button. If I unplug it for a couple of minutes (I am not sure how many) I will have to reinstall it by going into Ecoroute and HD-device (I think that's the name, mine is in Swedish) and have it finding the device again but that is only if it has been unplugged for a longer time.
Thanks for the answer. My head device is a 3790T

  • This thread is a old one but i have the same problem with my "new" car. i bought, here in Brazil, the 2013 Volkswagen Golf. Here we have the refitted Mark IV version on sale... But, continuing... my Ecoroute HD was used with a 2011 Brazilian Peugeot 207 (206+ on France) and with a Brazilian 2010 Volkswagen Fox, both without any issue. With Mark IV 2013 Volkswagen Golf i have the same problem described by Jörgen. If anyone discover what causes that problem, please share with us.

I think the problem is a miss match between the cars and EcoRoute.
If I would have had that problem at once I would have sent the EcoRoute back to the seller but unfortunatly it worked in the beginning and that is because the car battery was bad enough for the EcoRoute to reset when the voltige dropped because of the starter using so much current.
Now when the barrety is newer it does not reset automaticly.
This all was a bit hard to find out but I am farely sure I am right.

  • With all cars i have tested the Ecoroute HD only has problems with Mark IV 2013 Wolkswagen Golf, the only car in the list that i am the first owner. With the Peugeot 207 (Peugeot is a French carmaker) The Ecoroute HD works fine but it never recognized the engine stop (the GPS automatically shut down because the power was cut off when the car was turned off). With the Volkswagen Fox all functions of Ecoroute HD works fine. The mistery is why my Golf has these issues? The engine and ECU is the same used on the Fox! The lack of support from Garmin for Ecoroute HD is irritating.

I applied a "Ecoroute HD update" using Garmin Express. This update is offered to solve some issues with PWM (Pulse-width modulation) ECUs. With this update the only thing that changes is the GPS speedometer. Before the speed is read from ECU and now is used the satellite calculation. Now, when I go through a tunnel the GPS speedometer stops working.

I know Garmin does not have the ambition to supply a full coverage of all cars of all carmakers but a minimal support would be great. Even to say that my car is incompatible with the ecoRoute HD or is not supported by all resources.

    Sorry about my bad english.
  • Mark IV 2013 Wolkswagen Golf?? I think u mean a Mark VI 2013, Mark IV 2013 is a Golf 4 from 2013?

But ECU's are constantly changing, even if u have i.e 2 audi's from the same year there is a good change
    the have diverend ECU's
  • Mariomobiel, i was right. Here in Brazil, the 2013 VW Golf is a Mark IV (4) Golf with a facelift. The new model 2014 is a Mark VII (7) Golf. We don't receive the Mark V and VI. The baddest news for you is: the 2013 Mark IV Golf here costs the equivalent to US$ 27649,77! Our goverment think that all brazilians are rich because they approve this shame!
  • I found a solution to my problem... But with other problem!

    Hi guys!

My Ecoroute HD is working fine now, but with a cost: I suffered a car accident and my insurance paid a total indemnity and with that money I got another Volkswagen Golf but this time one with a 2.0 liter engine. With this car my ecoRoute HD works normally.

I know it's not the solution that all of you were looking for but I need to explain why i'll be abandoning the search for the ultimate solution.

    Good luck to all!

Good for You, or is it. An accident is not allways all good! :p
Well I do not hope for another car! I will though try to reinstall it and "hope" that my battery has gone so much worse that the ecoRoute works!
